An Accomplishment I Am Proud Of

I just discovered Miss Monica's Summer Link Up and think it's a great way to get to know other teacher bloggers.  This week's topic is "An Accomplishment I Am Proud Of".

My professional bucket list has included presenting at a teacher conference for quite awhile.  In February I was able to check that item off my list when I taught four sessions at the Georgia Preschool Association Annual Conference.

The workshop I developed, Books You Can Count On, focused on seeing favorite children's books as more than just language and literacy tools but as a way to achieve your mathematics standards, too.

I was pleased to see the display table came together just as I had envisioned.  I referenced over 25 classic books in the workshop and had dozens & dozens of samples for the preschool teachers to see up close. Leading a workshop for teachers requires just as much planning and preparation as teaching a lesson to youngsters!

Each session was set up for 40 participants and I'm proud to say every seat was filled in all four sessions.  In fact, we were overflowing a couple of times and folks were sitting on the floor!

Here's a photo of the conference book of handouts.  I outlined the workshop by giving attendees the title of the book, the activity ideas, and a place to take their own notes. Hard copies of my patterns, gameboards, and skillsheets were included in the conference book.

I'm very excited that I get to present Books You Can Count On again this summer in Tampa!  Sharing my workshops with teachers is certainly an accomplishment I'm proud of!

Thanks for letting me share my accomplishment with you!

  1. Hi Donna!

Welcome to the Weekly Summer Link-Up! It's great to have participating!

I love the concept of your presentation - and the title of it is PERFECT! I would love to be able to sit in on it and learn how I can incorporate some math into my literacy block! Wonderful idea!

I was able to do a presentation at the school board level this past August. It was the first time I have done anything like that. I had 4 sessions where I talked about interactive math notebooks to teachers in my board. I felt honoured that my colleagues from across my school board wanted to come and listen to what I had to say! It was amazing!

Thanks again for linking up! I hope you will be able to do so again throughout the summer!
