I went to the yard sale of a sweet young lady who was changing careers... from Special-Ed Teacher to Beautician! Found this box of Alphabet Bean Bags BRAND NEW and NEVER USED for only $5! They usually retail for $39 so I know I got a really great deal! How would you use these bean bags in your classroom? Oh what a GREAT find! These would be excellent as a warm up activity in PE - fetching a letter in your name, the first half of the alphabet, a letter that hangs above or below the line etc. & balance it on your head as you come back! Lots of use in phonics lessons for naming the letter or saying the sound. Tossing the bean bags helps co-ordination, strength awareness especially if it has to land within a hoop or box and rapid pass and say around a circle of children builds fluency. As another SpEd teacher I would find them really useful too, I just wonder why she hadn't used them? Special Teaching at Pempi's Palace
ReplyDeletePut pictures on the floor...you have to toss the bean bag indicating the correct beginning sound (does that make sense?)
ReplyDelete"Beat the clock"- put the beanbags in a pile & set a timer. Call out clues (found at the beginning of the word "cat", "clock", "can"; "the letter with the most sight words on our word wall). Students have to go find the correct beanbag and bring it back before the timer goes off.
